WHAT IS BROKENNESS?
Brokenness is a state of being humbled, remorseful, and surrendered before God. It is recognizing our own weaknesses and limitations and submitting ourselves completely to God.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR A CHRISTIAN TO BE BROKEN? Matt. 16:24
To be broken as a Christian means to die to oneself and one's desires, and to live fully for Christ. It is a process of surrender and submission, where we let go of our need for control and allow God to Mold us and shape us according to His plan.
SIGNS OF BROKENNESS IN THE LIFE OF A BELIEVER. Isaiah 66:1-2
- Humility and meekness
- Repentance and confession of sins.
- Compassion for others
- Willingness to serve.
- Gratitude in all circumstances
WHEN A BELIEVER NEEDS BROKENNESS. Joel 2:12-15
- When sin becomes a habit
- When the believer loss his/her hunger for Spiritual things – (Fasting, Evangelism, commitment to church activity)
- When has no appetite for Prayer and studying the word
BIBLICAL EXAMPLES OF BROKENNESS
- King David repenting after committing adultery with Bathsheba, 2 Sam 12:1, Psalm 51
- The prodigal son returning home to his father Luke 15:11-32
- Peter weeping bitterly after denying Jesus three times. Matthew 26:75, Luke 22:62
- The tax collector in Jesus' parable. Luke 18:9-14
FIVE (5) REASONS WHY A CHRISTIAN MUST BE BROKEN.
- To Experience Forgiveness and cleansing from sin. Is 1:18, 1 John 1:9
- To receive divine healing and restoration. 2 Chron. 7:14, Psalm 34:18, Psalm 147:3
- To align ourselves with God's will and purpose. Proverbs 3:5-6
- To receive Comfort and peace in trials, Matt 11:28, 2 Cor. 1:3-4, Phil. 4:6-7.
- To grow in humility and become more like Christ. Matt 11:29-30, Romans 8:29
CONCLUSION
Brokenness is crucial for Christians as enables us to draw closer to God, recognize our need for Him, and become more like Christ. Through brokenness, we can experience healing, restoration, and spiritual growth. 2 Cor. 12:9-10
