THE CALL TO SEPARATION PT.1
THE CALL TO SEPARATION PT.1
2 CORINTHIANS 6:14-18
INTRODUCTION
Many professing Christians have not fully embraced this call to separation. They have given their lives to Christ but have not allowed the grace of God to work the necessary separation in their hearts and lives.
WHAT IS SEPARATION? Romans 12:2
Separation is the act of distancing yourself from influences and associations that contradict or compromise your commitment to God and His ways. It involves a deliberate choice to detach from worldly values, unbelief, sin, spiritual darkness, and the influence of evil forces.
Separation begins in the heart and works its way outward, affecting our relationships, our behaviours, and our entire way of living.
WHAT WE MUST SEPARATE FROM. 2 Cor 6:14-17
- Separation from Unbelievers. 2Cor 6:14
The Bible warns against being “unequally yoked” with unbelievers. This does not mean we completely isolate ourselves, but we must be cautious about forming close partnerships or intimate relationships with those who do not share our faith. Our fellowship and deepest connections should be with fellow believers.
- Separation from Unrighteousness. 2 Cor 6:14, Ps 1:1, James 4:4b
This involves turning away from behaviors and attitudes that are contrary to God's standards of righteousness and holiness
- Separation from Darkness. Ephesians 5:11
Spiritual darkness symbolizes everything opposed to God's light and truth. Believers are called to walk in the light of God's Word, avoiding sinful practices and destructive influences.
- Separation from Belial (Satan). 2 Cor 6:14, I Pet 5:8
This is about resisting the devil and his schemes. Believers are called to be vigilant against Satan's deceitful tactics and to stand firm in the authority and power of Christ.
CONCLUSION
The call to Christianity is a call to separation. When we yield to the Holy Spirit, God's grace enables us to separate ourselves and be set apart for His purposes, bringing glory to His name. This is the essence of true discipleship.
Prayer.
- Holy Spirit, enable me to set myself apart for the service of God.
- Father, Give me the strength and wisdom to separate myself from the influences of the world, unbelievers, unrighteousness, darkness, and the schemes of the enemy.
